Health is the greatest gift in a person's life. It is necessary for any state to have a healthy population in order to prosper. The government of Assam with the aide of the Central government has been formulating various schemes for the advancement of the health sector in the state.

The Directorate of Health Services, Assam, under the patronage of the Ministry of Health and Family welfare is committed to provide and administer health services with a view to raise the quality, extend accountability and deliver the services fairly and effectively, at an affordable price.

The government, through its various schemes viz. Assam Arogya Nidhi, Janani Suraksha Yojana, Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram, RMNCH+A etc. envisions to deliver proper health-care services across the state.

The Assam Rural Development Society helps to facilitate arrangement of various services state-wide, which includes pulse polio vaccination camps, regular medical check-up camps, awareness camp for drug abuse and HIV AIDS.The ARDS also organizes training camps, meetings and seminars for eye-care services.

Additionally, it is instrumental in promoting as well as establishing academic institutions for ophthalmic training and education in the state.The society has tirelessly worked for the launch and implementation of the programmes and schemes aimed at developing child health-care. ARDS also renders its services for execution of schemes made with the objective to deliver adequate child nutrition in various parts of the state.ARDS also assists in setting up of vaccination camps in addition to facilitation of frequent medical check-up for the children of the economically poor section of the society.
